Edward Avedisian was born on June 15, 1936 in Lowell, Massachusetts, United States.
Edward studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University in Boston.
In the late 1950's, Edward Avedisian settled down in New York. During the period from 1958 to 1963, he held six one-man exhibitions. In 1962, Edward started to collaborate with Robert Elkon Gallery, where he exhibited his works until 1975. In the late 1960's, Avedisian's work appeared on the cover of Artforum (an international monthly magazine, specializing in contemporary art) and was included in "The Responsive Eye" exhibition of Op Art at the Museum of Modern Art and in four annuals at the Whitney Museum of American Art.
In 1969, Avedisian worked as an artist-in-residence at the University of Kansas. The following year, he held the same position at the School of Visual Arts in New York.
In the mid-1970's, Edward settled down in Hudson. During that time, he broke out in new directions in his work, painting representational scenes from his immediate environment, such as men at work, billboards and couples in repose. Some of his art of the time expressed homoerotic themes, while others captured the beauty of the natural landscapes, in which he found respite.
In the 1980's, Avedisian made bright abstract sculptures from painted Styrofoam. In 2003, his works were shown at Mitchell Algus Gallery.
