During the 1950s, Krause attended the Philadelphia College of Art in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. He studied painting, drawing, sculpture, and photography.
George is the artist specializes in surreal imagery exploring fantasies. Much of his work implies a change or metamorphosis. He made a series of photographs on gravestones, another on religious statues.
From 1964 to 1972 George worked as a freelance photographer. From 1972 to 1975 George taught at Bucks County Community College in Newtown, Pennsylvania, and at Brooklyn College in New York, in 1970. Since 1975 George is a professor of photography at the University of Houston.
George married Patsy Johnson in November 1959 (divorced in 1980). Children: George VI, Kathryn Jane.
