After receiving a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1977, Tod Papageorge began to photograph intensively in Central Park, employing medium-format cameras. From picture to picture, Tod Papageorge constructs a world that resembles our own, but that also invokes that of the Bible. This ambitious body of work - incorporating pictures produced over the course of 25 years - displays not only Papageorge's remarkable ability to make photographs that read like condensed narratives but also his skill at weaving them into sequences that echo profound cultural narratives.

In Opera Città, Tod Papageorge pays homage to Rome and the act of flanerie. He strolled through the city, at first without any aim, and then almost systematically, through various neighborhoods, parks, train stations, suburban avenues, and the city center.

"Core Curriculum: Writings on Photography" is the collection of essays, reviews, and lectures by Tod Papageorge, one of the most influential voices in photography today. He has shaped the work and thought of generations of artist-photographers, and, through his critical writings - some of which have gained a cult following through online postings - he has earned a reputation as an unusually eloquent and illuminating guide to the work of many of the most important figures in twentieth-century photography.
