Communist Party member. Was one of the editors of the magazine Novyi Mir. In the early 1960s, criticised Khrushchev’s cult of personality.
At the end of 1962, wrote a letter to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union demanding agricultural reforms on the Yugoslav model (abolishment of the kolkhozes). Put into a psychiatric hospital, but soon released.
