My early efforts related to testing the validity of economic hypotheses — confronting the hypothesis with the data. Applications were in demand analysis (symmetry of income-compensated substitution effects, separability of utility functions) and to the specification of macroeconometric models. During this period (1966-1969) my work probably represented one of the earliest formal applications of Wald tests in econometrics.
Subsequently I became interested in computational and numerical problems relating to econometrics with applications to systems of equations, large macro models, social accounting matrices, and large symmetric systems More recently I have written on nonlinear estimation procedures and the tendency of asymptotic test statistics to over-reject infinite sample situations. My current interests relate to developing countries and to applying econometrics in datapoor situations.
