Liberal economist who largely followed the principles of classical economics. However, he rejected Ricardo’s rent theory and Lassalle’s ‘iron law of wages’ in favour of a more optimistic view. He modified his opposition to State intervention in the case of State encouragement of large families.
He was a large landowner and his success in agricultural management led to his frequent consultation as an adviser by firms.
