Schindler was born on April 11, 1931 in Munich, Germany; the son of Alexander Moshe and Esther (Zwickler) Schindler. His family came to the United States in 1940 and then moved to Jerusalem in 1972.

Schindler received a Master of Science degree from Yeshiva University in 1964. Eight years later he earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree from New York University.
Schindler ordained as a rabbi in 1956. Three years later he began his career as a director of education at the Adath Israel Congregation in Toronto. Then in 1965, Pesach was appointed an assistant director of education at the United Synagogue of America in New York.
In 1972, his family settled in Jerusalem and he became a director of the Center for Conservative Judaism. Three years later, Pesach took a position of an assistant professor at the Hebrew University. Also he was also involved in different educational programs.
Schindler initiated and developed projects and activities at the United Synagogue’s Fuchsberg Jerusalem Center Fuchsberg for 25 years and was renowned for teaching the Daf Yomi, the daily page of Talmud.
Schindler was a founding member of the Hebrew University Orchestra in 1988 and in the same year became a member of the Rabbinical Assembly’s court on conversion and committee on Jewish law.
He was a chairman of the Long Distance Running Club from 1984 to 1987. In 1980, Pesach became a member of the International Board of Yad Vashem.
Schindler was an inspired and inspiring teacher, with a friendly personality and a ready smile who was always considerate of others.
On June 30, 1954 Pesach Schindler married Shulamith Feldman. They have five children.
