He graduated from The Open University with Bachelor of Arts degree in 1983, from University of Sussex with Master's degree in 1986, and from Birkbeck College, University of London with certificate of field archaeology in 1993.
Peter was a head of faculty at Croydon Education Authority in 1988-97. He became a senior teacher in 1997. In 1998 he became a history consultant in MacDonald Books. He was a council member in Sussex Archaeological Society in 1993-96. Since 1993 he has been a writer. In 1994 he became an adult education tutor at Varndean College. He worked as a Continuing Education tutor at University of Sussex, Centre.
