Educated grammar school and School of Langs., Ontario. Doctor of Divinity, Wheaton (Illinois) College, 1925.

Career

Joined Salvation Army, 1884, captain 1887, birg. 1892; resigned 1894, to become an evangelist. Founder, 1896, and pastor until 1922, independent church, Hamilton, Canada (membership growing from 35 to 1,700).

Pastor Moody Church, Chicago, 1922-1929, during which time the Moody Memorial million dollar church was erected. Pastor Church of the Open Door, Los Angeles, since 1929. Active in recruiting service for World War, 1914-1917.

Presiding judge Military Conscription Court, 1917 until Armistice. Trustee Wheaton College. President African Inland Mission for N. America.
