Peter Zimmermann was born in 1956 in Freiburg im Breisgau, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany.
Peter Zimmermann entered the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart in 1978 and received his diploma five years later.
The start of Peter Zimmermann’s career can be counted from the early 1980s. One of his first exhibitions, group one, took place in 1981 at the Galerie Tanja Grunert in Stuttgart. By the end of the decade, he presented to the public Book Covers series which provided him with the first popularity. The hallmark of the project was the use of old book covers, calendars and other old printed products as the objects of art.
Another famous collection of the artist is the Blob Paintings where he distorts found materials like photographs, film stills, and diagrams with a help of Photoshop and then covers the resulting abstract images with whimsical shapes by epoxy resin.
Since the beginning of his artistic path, Zimmermann has exhibited around the world, including solo and group shows in the well-known art spaces in the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, France, South Korea, China, Turkey, Singapore, Luxembourg, Greece, Taiwan, and elsewhere. Zimmermann’s artworks have been gathered in two volumes, the first of which saw publication in 2007, and the second one issued two years later.
In 2002, Zimmermann has tried his hand in academics and joined the professor’s staff of the Academy of Media Arts Cologne. He taught at the institution for the next five years.
