Background
Petr Geiden was born to a noble family in the city of Revel (today's Tallinn, Estonia) in Russian Empire. He is the grandson of Login Geiden, who led the Imperial Russian Navy in the Battle of Navarino in 1827.

Petr Geiden was born to a noble family in the city of Revel (today's Tallinn, Estonia) in Russian Empire. He is the grandson of Login Geiden, who led the Imperial Russian Navy in the Battle of Navarino in 1827.
Graduated with distinction from Page Corps in 1858 and from Mikhailov Military Academy in 1860.
In 1866-1868, Geiden served as Officer for special assignements under Voronezh governor. At the same time he acted as an Advisor to the Province Government. In 1867-1868, he was the director of Voronezh Prison Committee
Since 1870 he became a member of St. Petersburg county Court, and the Friend of the Chair in 1877. Since 1883, Geiden was in position of a member of Petersburg's Trial Chamber.
In the period of 1886-1890 Geiden headed the Office of pleas to His Highness. In 1895-1905, acted as a chairman of Free Economic Society. A participant of Zemstvo and City Conventions since 1902.
He was a supporter of constitutional monarchy.
One of the founders of right-liberal party "Union of October 17" (1905).
