Expelled for revolutionary activity. Went to study at Berlin University, 1899. Joined a terrorist group of the SR Party.
Returned to Russia, and shot the education minister Bogolepov, 1901. Condemned to 20 years imprisonment in Schluesselburg, transferred to Siberia, 1906. Escaped 1907. Abroad became one of the collaborators of Azef in his SR terrorist activities.
Made an unsuccessful attempt on the life of Nicholas II, 1908. After Azef was unmasked as a police spy, he left the SR Party. Drowned on his return to Russia after the February Revolution 1917, when his ship was sunk in the North Sea by a German mine.
