Educated at the Pages Corps, Petersburg, 1914.
Mining engineer. After the February Revolution 1917, member of the Executive Committee of the Petrograd Soviet. Chairman of the Council for Defence. In October 1917, Military Governor of Petrograd under the Provisional Government.
In charge of the defence of the Winter Palace and the Provisional Government on the day of the October Revolution, 7 November 1917. Arrested by the Bolsheviks after the storming of the Palace. For a time, inmate of the Peter and Paul Fortress.
According to Solzhenitsyn in Gulag Archipelago shot in a Gulag camp.

. Spent his childhood in France with his parents. Joined a hussar regiment at the front during W WI. Close to the sons of Konstantin Romanov, translated into French Romanov’s Tsar’ Iudeiskii.
Arrested with the other Romanovs and their relatives by M. Uritskii, March 1918. Sent to the Urals with Grand-Duke Sergei
Mikhailovich and the 3 sons of Konstantin Romanov, Ioann, Konstantin and Igor. In April, the prisoners were brought to Ekaterinburg, where the Tsar’s family was imprisoned, but kept separately.
Transferred with the group of prisoners to Alapaevsk, 18 May 1918. Executed at a disused mine in a nearby forest.
