Petr REBINDER, USSR Physical chemist. Professor 1929; Professor, Moscow University, since 1942; full member, USSR Academy of Science, since 1946. Stalin Prize; Order of Lenin; Order of Patriotic War, Class I; Order of Red Banner of Labor; medals.


REBINDER, Petr was born in 1898 in Rostov-on-Don.


1924 graduated, Moscow University.


Helped found colloidal chemistry in USSR. Developed theory of flotation ore concentration and theory of thixotropy. Founded new technican discipline of physicochemical mechanics.

Discovered relaxation of deformation and drop in mechanical strength of solids due to action of adsorbents, a phenomenom known in USSR as the “Rebinder effect”. Permanent consultant to various research instituts. 1955 attended International Congress on Surface Activity in London.

1955 visited China; 1933-1946 corresponding member, USSR Academy of Science. Since 1923 associate, Moscow Institute of Physics and Biophysics. Since 1929 Professor, Chair of Physics, Moscow Pedagogical Institute.

Since 1934 Head,Department of Dispersed Systems, Institute of Physical Chemistry, USSR Academy of Science.
