Fluent in English, German and Polish, he has directed plays in Poland and Slovakia. His own written work includes several plays such as Mixtitlan, Soul of a Clone, Alma en venta, The Death of Atahualpa and Return of the Bedbug. Boehm has translated more than twenty literary works from German and Polish.
Boehm is the founder of the Upstream Theater in Saint Louis, which has become known for its productions of foreign plays. He has won numerous prizes for his translations, including the Schlegel-Tieck Prize and the Oxford-Weidenfeld Translation Prize, as well as various awards from the American Translators Association, the National Endowment for the Arts, Poets, Playwrights, Editors, Essayists and Novelists association America, the Austrian Ministry of Culture, and the Texas Institute of Letters.
