Career
He currently writes for The Economist. Previously, he worked for the Financial Times for 20 years. In 2008, he was named Senior Financial Journalist of the Year by the Wincott Foundation and in 2009 he was voted Best Communicator at the Business Journalist of the Year Awards.
Among his books are The Money Machine: How the City Works (1986 and 2009), The Economist Guide to Hedge Funds (2005), Paper Promises: Money, Debt and the New World Order (2011), named Spears" Business Book of the Year, and The Last Vote: the Threats to Western Democracy (2013).
He was educated at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge.
