In 1977 Philippe Van Parijs received his Doctor of Philosophy in Social Sciences from the Université catholique de Louvain. In 1980 he completed his studies at University of Oxford with Doctor of Philisophy in Philosophy.
Mr. Van Parijs served as a junior research fellow at Belgian National Science Foundation from 1974 to 1980, senior research fellow between 1980 and 1991. Philippe Van Parijs joined Catholic University of Louvain, Louvain, Belgium, working as a part-time lecturer in 1980-1991, professor during 1991-1995 and later Hoover Professor of Economic and Social Ethics.
Between 1976 and 1977 Philippe Van Parijs was a gasthoerer at University of Bielefeld. He acted as a fellow in sociology and economics at University of California, Berkeley, from 1977 till 1978. He was a Jean Monnet fellow of European University Institute (Florence, Italy) between 1990 and 1991. In 1991 he was a member of international editorial board, Ecologie Politique (Paris, France).
In 1992 Philippe Van Parijs became a Jean Monnet professor of European Studies at University of Siena. He was a visiting professor of University of Quebec from 1993. Mr. Van Parijs served as a visiting professor at Institute of Marxism-Leninism at Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in 1993. The same year he was appointed visiting professor at Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona. Since 1994 he acted as a Benjamin Meaker Visiting Professor at University of Bristol.
In 1994 Mr. Van Parijs held the post of a visiting professor at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Since 1994 he became a visiting professor at Institute of Philosophy at Russian Academy of Sciences. Mr. Van Parijs worked as a visiting professor of University of Maine at Orono starting from 1996. In 1988 he was appointed member of executive committee of Basic Income European Network. Philippe Van Parijs was a member of international standing committee of Ethikon Institute since 1989.
He was an editor of special editions, La Revue Nouvelle and Revue Philosophique de Louvain and also an author of a number of books.
