Phyllis Humphrey finished J. Sterling Morton High School. From 1945 to 1947 Phyllis was a postgraduate at Northwestern University. In 1972 she received an Associate of Arts degree from College of San Mateo.
Phyllis Humphrey began writing when she was young, and contributed regularly to her schools’ newspapers and yearbooks. Ashworth’s first novel, a romance titled Golden Fire, won a writing contest and was published under the pseudonym Phyllis Carol. Since then, Ashworth has published many novels and an investment guide, as well as various short stories and articles. She also writes skits and one-act plays for the Repertory Players.
Phyllis have also ghost-written three books and had two radio scripts performed by American Radio Theatre. She has been on radio and television to promote her books, as well as signings at book fairs.
In 1972 she was appointed as a partner of Criterion House.
Phyllis Humphrey has written dozens of books that are very popular. She has been listed as a notable writer by Marquis Who's Who. Her book Wall Street on $20 a Month was One of Ten Best Financial Books of 1986.
Humphrey was also a finalist of St. Martin's Press Malice Domestic Contest, Outreach International Awards and Romance Junkies Contest.

Phyllis Humphrey married Herbert A. Pihl on September 13, 1946. They divorced in 1957. On June 21, 1965 she married her second husband Curtis H. Humphrey. Phyllis has three children from her first marriage and four stepchildren, from the second one.
