Priscilla Presley is an American actress and business personality. She is the former wife of Elvis Presley, with whom she had daughter Lisa Marie Presley.
Background
Ethnicity:
Presley's maternal grandfather was born in 1899 in Egersund, Norway. He migrated to the United States, where he married her grandmother, who was of Scots-Irish and English descent.
Priscilla Presley was born Priscilla Ann Wagner on March 24, 1945, in Brooklyn, New York City to the family of Anna Lillian Iversen and United States Navy pilot James Wagner. Six months after Priscilla’s birth, tragedy struck when her father was killed in a plane crash. As a result, Priscilla never got the chance to know her birth father. A few years later, Anna married a United States Air Force officer Paul Beaulieu. Since Priscilla was so young when James died, Paul was the only father she ever knew. He raised her as his own, and even gave her his last name of “Beaulieu.”
In her autobiography Elvis and Me, Priscilla writes of how she eventually found out that Paul wasn’t her birth father. She said she was digging through an old box of family keepsakes when she discovered that her father was actually James Wagner. After she discovered this secret, her mother encouraged her to keep it to herself, because she was afraid if the other children knew it would “endanger” the bond the family had built.
This discovery didn’t change the amount of respect and admiration that Priscilla had for Paul. Priscilla’s stepfather played a huge role in her life. She has remained close with him over the years until his death in 2018. Being in the Air Force required Paul and the Beaulieu family to make frequent moves, including one to Germany. When the Beaulieus arrived in Germany, they stayed at the Helene Hotel, but, after three months, living there became too expensive, and they looked for a place to rent. The family settled into a large apartment in a "vintage building constructed long before World War I." Soon after moving in, the Beaulieus realized it was a brothel, but, given the scarcity of housing, they had little choice but to remain.
Education
In March 1963, Priscilla moved to America for good. It was there that she attended the Immaculate Conception High School in Memphis and lived with Presley’s parents. Upon graduating in June 1963, she moved to live-in with Presley.
Priscilla Presley studied acting with Milton Katselas, dance at Stephen Peck Theatre Art School, and karate at Chuck Norris Karate School.
Presley received an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree from Rhodes College, Memphis in 1998.
It was while she was in Germany that Priscilla Beaulieu, who was fourteen then, met and first fell in love with Elvis Presley, who was stationed in Wiesbaden while he was serving in the Army. Priscilla’s parents were a bit skeptical about Elvis at first and her stepfather was especially concerned about his interest in her. “My father interrogated me!” she said. “He wanted to know, ‘What happened the first night? Why does he want to see you again?‘”
But after Elvis came to their house dressed in full military uniform, Paul Beaulieu was impressed. He ended up talking with Elvis for an hour and a half that night. The following four years marked the meteoric rise of Elvis Presley as a singer and actor. Despite being extensively busy with his career commitments, the love of the two blossomed so much so that Priscilla visited him in the United States during the summer of 1962.
Once living in Memphis in 1963, Priscilla Beaulieu says she moved into Graceland bit by bit, at first spending occasional nights with Presley, later moving in and sleeping together every night. In her 1985 autobiography, the bestseller Elvis and Me, which was later adapted to a television miniseries, Priscilla describes Presley as a very passionate man who was not overtly sexual towards her. Although he would spend hours alone with her in his bedroom, Priscilla wrote that Elvis never made any advances towards her. According to her account, Elvis told her that they had to wait until they were married before having intercourse. He said, "I'm not saying we can't do other things. It's just the actual encounter. I want to save it." Priscilla adds, "Fearful of not pleasing him - of destroying my image as his little girl - I resigned myself to the long wait. Instead of consummating our love in the usual way, he began teaching me other means of pleasing him. We had a strong connection, much of it sexual. The two of us created a lot of exciting and wild times."
In Elvis and Me, Beaulieu recounted how Elvis would stay up all night and sleep most of the day. If he wanted to go out, he would rent out the venue and invite friends, family and fans, or arrange with store owners to shop after hours when the store was closed. She also talked about the prescription sleeping pills that were present from the very first night she spent with him and how their usage and variety escalated dramatically during the years they were together.
A completely different view of Priscilla's life, painting her in a rather negative light and describing her as a "wild child" and "sexpot", can be found in Suzanne Finstad's book, Child Bride: The Untold Story of Priscilla Beaulieu Presley (1997), which is based on accounts of several people who knew Elvis and Priscilla well, among them many friends from Priscilla's childhood and adolescence, Elvis's stepbrother Rick Stanley, Priscilla's boyfriend Mike Edwards, Elvis's ex-girlfriends and the wives of the Memphis Mafia men. The author writes that Priscilla promised sexual favors in exchange for meeting Elvis to Currie Grant, a married, 27-year-old man who knew the singer, that she and Elvis slept together on their second date and that she wasn't a virgin on her wedding night. The book also claims that her marriage was part of a plot to achieve fame hatched by Priscilla and her mother and that she never loved Elvis. Finstad takes many quotes that Priscilla has made and calls them a web of lies that she has spun. Priscilla launched a lawsuit against Currie Grant for his claims in the book and won.
Priscilla and Elvis were married on May 1, 1967, in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the Aladdin Hotel. Their only child, daughter Lisa Marie, was born exactly nine months later on February 1, 1968. For the first few years they were very happy together, but with Elvis working away so much and continuing to have romantic affairs with other women, Priscilla found it very hard to keep their marriage together.
During the late sixties, Elvis' career took off again, and he was constantly touring and playing in Las Vegas. Priscilla was left at home for the majority of the time to bring up Lisa Marie. By the age of 26, Priscilla was no longer the shy teenager she had once been, and with her husband away for up to six months of the year Priscilla found it easier to take care of herself without his guidance.
Due to Elvis being away so often and his ever-growing drug dependence, their relationship soured both mentally and physically. Priscilla found herself a practical lone parent, and could eventually see no future with Elvis.
Elvis was a keen karate student, and persuaded Priscilla to take it up. Priscilla thought it was a good idea as it would pass the lonesome months if she had a hobby to concentrate on, and so she arranged to be taught by Mike Stone. She would attend lessons a few times a week and enjoyed it immensely. Following a few heated rows with Elvis about his adultery, Priscilla found it easy to talk to Mike about her feelings. Eventually, the two became very close and started an affair of their own. Priscilla felt terrible about what she was doing, and took the decision to leave Elvis for Mike. She later described Mike as "a way out" of her life with Elvis.
Elvis and Priscilla separated on February 23, 1972, agreeing to share custody of their daughter, this eventually ending in divorce on October 9, 1973. Elvis and Priscilla continued to remain good friends until the day of Elvis' death on August 16, 1977.
Priscilla Presley’s career did not start immediately following her studies. It was following her divorce with Elvis in 1973 that she eventually started her career as a proprietor of Bis & Beau, a clothing boutique, along with friend and stylist Olivia Bis. The store was a major hit and had high-society clients including Cher, Lana Turner, Barbara Streisand and Natalie Wood. The store, however, shut down in 1976.
Following Elvis’ death in 1977, Presley served as the executor for his only heir, her daughter, Lisa Marie. The Graceland estate required a whooping amount of $500,000 as maintenance costs which limited Lisa Marie’s inheritance to merely $1 million. Due to financial constraints, selling Graceland estate was the only option before Priscilla. However, she did not succumb to the pressures and instead acted wisely. She took the risk of converting Graceland estate into a tourist attraction, a move which paid off handsomely. Opened to public on June 7, 1982, the estate came under Elvis Presley Enterprises of which she served as the president. Under her, the enterprise grew on to become a multi-million dollar trust.
In 1988, she launched her own line of fragrance. She soon followed it up with her own range of linens. Meanwhile, she also produced a couple of films including ‘Breakfast with Einstein’ and ‘Finding Graceland’. In 2000, she was appointed to the board of directors of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
Priscilla Presley, all through her life, had been interested in modelling and dancing but Elvis’ aversion to his wife having a career in show business restrained her interest to being hobby alone. However, after his death, she pursued a career as an actor. Her first outing in front of the camera was for a 1980 television show, ‘Those Amazing Animals’. In it, she served as the co-host. Only three years later, she got her officially first acting assignment, for ‘Manhunter’ episode of the show ‘The Fall Guy’ which was in its second season.
In 1983, she starred in the television film, ‘Love is Forever’, opposite Michael Landon. Her acting won her positive response from viewers and makers. Subsequently, she was seen as Jenna Wade in the prime-time television soap opera ‘Dallas’. She played the character for five long years until 1988.
In 1988, Presley starred opposite Leslie Nielson in the first film of ‘The Naked Gun’ series, ‘Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!’ She was seen in the next two sequels of the series including, ‘The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear’ (1991) and ‘Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult’. All the films were major blockbuster hits.
The decade of the 1990s saw her appear as special guest for the television series, ‘Melrose Palace’, ‘Touched by an Angel’ and ‘Spin City’. She was a contestant in the show ‘Dancing with the Stars’.
On Christmas 2012, she made her pantomime debut in the musical comedy, ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’. She starred opposite Warwick Davis. She reprised her role two years later at Opera House in Manchester.

Religion
Priscilla Presley joined the Church of Scientology after reaching out to fellow member John Travolta, following Elvis’ death in 1977. Presley even raised daughter Lisa-Marie within the Church of Scientology, but the latter officially defected from the church in 2016, though she had been experiencing growing dissent with the Church as far back as 2008. Priscilla Presley was rumored to quit the church herself in 2017 but she officially denied it.
Politics
Priscilla Presley avoids making political statements or attributing herself to any of the existing American parties.
Views
Priscilla Presley has been the Ambassador of the Dream Foundation since 2003, helping to fulfill the dreams of adults battling terminal illnesses. She became involved in this vital organization after helping to grant a recipients wish to visit Graceland.
In 2013 Priscilla Presley added her voice to the thousands of Tennesseans urging Governor Bill Haslam to veto Senate Bill 1248, an anti-whistleblower “ag gag” bill. A long-time friend to animals, Presley insists Tennessee’s agriculture industry should have nothing to hide.

Connections
Priscilla and Elvis were married on May 1, 1967, in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the Aladdin Hotel. Their only daughter Lisa Marie, who later became Elvis' inheritor, was born nine months later on February 1, 1968. Elvis and Priscilla separated on February 23, 1972, agreeing to share custody of their daughter, this eventually ending in divorce on October 9, 1973.
Romantically, Presley has had a number of serious relationships since her divorce from Elvis in 1973. Immediately afterwards, she lived with karate instructor Mike Stone. She then had a seven-year live-in relationship with bisexual model Mike Edwards, until he began developing feelings for the teenage Lisa Marie. Edwards recounts the tale of their relationship in his book Priscilla, Elvis, and Me. Other past consorts reportedly include lawyer Robert Kardashian, hairdresser Elie Ezerzer, businessman Kirk Kerkorian, crooner Julio Iglesias, actor Richard Gere, restaurateur Richie Palmer, variety entertainer Barry Crocker and disc jockey Toby Anstis.
Priscilla's longest relationship has been with Italian screenwriter-director Marco Garibaldi, with whom she lived for 22 years. Their son, Navarone, was born on March 1, 1987. The two separated in April 2006.
