1877-1890 lecturer, 1890-1904 professor, lrom 1904 emeritus professor, Moscow Technical College. Specialized in the resistance of materials and machine parts. Developed course on this subject which served as a basis for training several generations of engineering
Also did research on steam engines and boilers. Made major contribution to Russian pump-manufacture with his pump manuals and catalogs.
