1907-1917 professor, Saint St. Petersburg Polytech Institute. From 1917 member, Russian Academy of Sciences. During Civil War member, Denikin and Wrangel anti-Soviet governments.
From 1920 lived in Prague, then Paris, where he edited Constitutional-Democratic journal “Russkaya mysl’” and newspaper “Vozrozhdeniye”.
