Metalworker; 1901-1902 founded in Sormovo Social-Democratic organisation. May 1901 member, Nizhniy Novgorod Russian Social-Democratic Workers’ Party Committee. Helped organize 1902 May Day demonstration in Sormovo.
Carried red banner with the slogan “Down with Autocracy”. Arrested and sentenced to exile for life to Eastern Siberia. With the aid of Gorky, who sent 300 rubles to arrange his escape, fled to Kiev, then lived illegally in Saint St. Petersburg and Moscow.
Joined Bolsheviks; 1905 active in armed revolt in Moscow. Organized battle squads. After 1917 February Revol helped organize soviets in Kursk Province.
Elected member, Sudzhan Executive Committee. Fought in Civil War; founded “Krasnyy Oktyabr”’ kolkhoz. Prototype of Pavel Vlasov, the hero in Gorky's novel “Mat”’ (Mother).
