He has returned to the Punjab Assembly for the second consecutive term in bye-election 2008. He has extensively travelled abroad. Qasim Zia has been appointed as the 23rd president of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (Paired Helical Filaments) by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani on October 15, 2008.
Qasim Zia was married in November 1986 and has three children.

He is an Olympic Gold Medalist in the field Hockey and remained Member of Pakistan National Hockey Team during 1980-1987.
