Qingyun Wu

Background

Qingyun Wu was born on August 28, 1950 in Hebei, China. She is the daughter of Ming and Xuejin (Zhao) Wu.

Education

Qingyun Wu received her Bachelor of Arts in English from Kaifeng Normal University (now Henan Normal University), China in 1975. She then gained her Diploma in English from Polytechnic of Central London (now the University of Westminster) in 1978.

In 1987 Qingyun Wu earned her Master of Arts in English from the Southern Illinois University.

She also earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Comparative Literature from Pennsylvania State University in 1991.

Career

Qingyun Wu began her career as a lecturer in English at Zhengzhou University, China from 1978 to 1985. She was a graduate lecturer in Chinese at Pennsylvania State University, State College during 1987-1990. She then became a lecturer in Chinese at the University of Texas at Austin during 1990-1991.

Qingyun Wu became an associate professor of Chinese and director of Chinese Studies Center at California State University, Los Angeles, in 1991.

Achievements

• Qingyun Wu received the Academic Merit Prize for Translation in 1986 for Liushu Fengsheng. She is also the recipient of Bayard award of Pennsylvania State University in 1991.
  
  Moreover, she earned Outstanding Academic Book citation from Choice in 1996 for "Female Rule in Chinese and English Literary Utopias".
