This is an account of the Wright brothers development of the first successful airplane and how they solved a series of daunting problems, written for a general audience by an aeronautical engineer. The numerous biographers have not properly understood the ingenious solutions to the many problems. The second part is an account of Charles Wald's experiences learning to fly with the Wrights and his adventures flying their first water based aircraft in 1912.
