Narayan, Raj was born on September 12, 1941 in Muzaffar Nagar, India. Son of Ram and Prakash (Vati) Narayan.


Bachelor of Science, Agra (India) University, 1958. B.E.in Metallurgical Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, 1961. Doctor of Philosophy. in Metallurgical Engineering, University Newcastle Upon Tyne (England), 1970.


With Directorate of Industries, Kanpur, India, 1961-1962. Incharge marine corrosion research station, Digha, India. Scientist National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur, India, 1962-1965.

Lecturer in metallurgical engineering University Roorkee (India), 1965-1966. Research associate University Newcastle Upon Tyne, 1966-1969. Research fellow University College, Swansea, Wales, 1970-1971.

Section leader for metallurgy research and development C.A. Parsons & Limited company, Newcastle Upon Tyne, 1971-1974. Assistant professor metallurgical engineering Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, 1974-1980, professor metallurgical engineering, since 1980.
