Background
Ram Pothineni was born on May 15, 1988, Hyderabad, Telagana, India. He is the son of Muralimohan and Padmasree Pothineni, and nephew of a famous film producer Sravanthi Ravi Kishore. Pothineni also has a brother Krishna Chaitanya and a sister Madhu Smitha.
Education
Pothineni studied at Chettinad Vidyashram in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.
In 2002, Pothineni acted in a Tamil short film titled "Adayalam." He then auditioned for the lead role in Kaadhal. Pothineni made his debut in 2006 with Devadasu and the film went on to become a blockbuster, running for 175 days in over a 17 centers and completed 205 days in Hyderabad Odeon 70mm theatre. His second film, Jagadam, was directed by Sukumar. Though it did not do well at the box office, it received critical acclaim.
He then appeared in Ready alongside Genelia D'Souza, with the film becoming a huge success, prompting remakes into other Indian languages and catapulting him to the big league. In 2009, he had two releases, Maska and Ganesh Just Ganesh; the latter was not successful at the box office. Maska had one of the biggest openings at the time, collecting over 2.5 crores on the opening day and recovering its investment within the first week.
In 2010, Pothineni had only one release, Rama Rama Krishna Krishna, produced by Dil Raju and directed by Srivaas. His next film Kandireega was a big blockbuster of 2011 and he proved to be the man of the masses along with his lover boy image. His next latest release was Endhukante Premanta with Tamannaah, directed by Karunakaran and produced by Sravanthi Ravi Kishore. The movie was shot in the beautiful lavish locales with a huge budget but it turned out to be an average grosser.
In 2013, Pothineni had yet another release, Ongole Githa with Kriti Kharbanda directed by Bhaskar and produced by B.V.S.N. Prasad. The movie was sold for a record price in Pothineni's career, and was commercial failure at the box office. He next starred with Daggubati Venkatesh in Masala, the remake of the Hindi film Bol Bachchan which was directed by K. Vijaya Bhaskar and jointly produced by Sravanthi Ravi Kishore and Suresh Babu.
In 2015 he starred in Pandaga Chesko directed by Gopichand Malineni and produced by Paruchuri Kireeti under United Movies Banner. Its reviews were not encouraging but it managed to strike the right chord with the masses and became a hit film. His next releases were Shivam and Nenu Sailaja within a gap of three months in the same year. Both produced by his own production house, Shivam took a great opening but could not sustain due to bad reviews. Surprisingly, the immediate release Nenu Sailaja took a grand opening worldwide with a record collection of 7 crores on day 1, the highest for Pothineni, and did extremely well worldwide. It is the highest viewed music video album for a Telugu film on YouTube with over 3 songs with 25 million views and "Crazy Feeling" with over 30 million views, a record for a Telugu film.
Hyper was released on September 30, 2016, directed by Santosh Srinivas and produced under 14 Reels Entertainment. It earned mixed reviews and ended up as an average grosser. In 2017, he had another release, Vunnadi Okkatey Zindagi, produced by Sravanthi Ravi Kishore, which received good reviews.
In 2018, he starred in Hello Guru Prema Kosame, directed by Trinadha Rao Nakkina. His will also appear in Puri Jagannadh's iSmart Shankar, where he will be playing a Hyderabadi, alongside with Nidhhi Agerwal and Nabha Natesh. The film is to be released on July 17, 2019.
