Raphaël Delorme was born on March 30, 1885, in Caudéran, Aquitaine, France.
The artist Raphaël Delorme was trained at the Ecole des beaux-arts de Bordeaux. He studied with the theater decorators Artus and Lauriol.
There is hardly any mention of Delorme in art books; his paintings are almost solely featured in art deco books. Unfortunately, there is almost no information on his life. His style was a mix of realistic painting and art deco shapes. Delorme loved painting renaissance themes with a modern twist. He often added geometric forms and bright colors to his paintings.
After studying at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux, Raphael Delorme began his career as a theater designer. Thanks to the patronage of a wealthy aunt, he quickly abandoned this activity to devote himself solely to easel painting without ever having to worry about selling his works. He even boasted that he had sold only one painting in his life in the Maharajah of Kapourtala.
Despite that eccentric carelessness, he often exhibited at the Salon d'Automne, the National Fine Arts and Salon des Tuileries. Little known during his lifetime, he is today one of the major figures of Art Deco painting. The artist died in 1962.

Delorme created impeccable compositions with a cold tone and perfect design. Oscillating between Academism and Surrealism, he created a very personal and bizarre universe, populated by luscious naked blondes and mythological creatures in decorations mixing ancient architecture and modern machines.

This man with the beautiful simian face had two great qualities, no one changed his behavior and he had the purest sense of humor.
