Raquel Miller, better known by her stage name Mercedes, is a former American Rhythm & Blues recording artist from Detroit, Michigan.
Background
On May 29, 1999 during an interview Mercedes would discuss how she got signed to Number Limit, clarifying she was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, where she was in her sophomore year at Xavier University in New Orleans when Number Limit group Kane & Abel saw her perform Shirley Murdock’s "As We Lay" in a talent show.
Career
She is best known for being signed to Number Limit Records. 1997-1900: Music beginnings, Rear End & retirement Impressed by her performance, the Number Limit group invited Mercedes to join them in the studio, the timing was right as Master P happened to be around that day. The label Chief Executive Officer asked her to sing "and I’ve been with them ever since" stated Mercedes.
On June 29, 1999 Mercedes would release her debut album entitled Rear End it would be released on Master P"s Number Limit Records, the album like most of Number Limit"s releases, featured other Number Limit performing artists such as Mystikal, Mac, Mia X, Silkk the Shocker and Master P. Rear End was successful, peaking at Number.
34 on the Billboard 200 and Number. 12 on the Top Rhythm & Blues/Hip-Hop Albums charts.
After releasing the album, Mercedes reportedly retired from the music business less than a year later to attend law school.
