The world Wide Web is the fastest-expanding segment of the Information Superhighway. Using this book, should give the reader all the information he or she needs to browse through the Web, integrate it into library services, or build enviably good home pages for computer libraries. The book features accessible language and offers easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions that are a feature of Neal-Schuman's "How-To-Do-It Series". The manual covers: what the reader needs to know before starting; the hardware and software requirements for accessing the Web; choosing and using a Web browser; how to expand sources available at the reference desk with the Web; and finding and using the best Web resources for children. Other features covered include: bringing multimedia resources into the reader's library through the Web; training library staff and patrons on the Web; archiving information from the Web; incorporating Web resources into library operations and services like the interlibrary loan, cataloguing and foreign language collections; creating HTML documents; and designing a home page for readers' libraries or departments. The entire manual is written specifically for librarians and is intended to help them use the Web to put their libraries on the Web.
