Razumnik Timofeevich Gonorsky was born in August 1791 in Tula, Russian Federation. He was born in the family of a priest.
Razumnik Timofeevich studied at the Demidov School of Higher Sciences in Yaroslavl and at the Saint Petersburg Pedagogical Institute (now The Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia) since 1810. His first poetic experiments he published in the journal Friend of the Youth (Drug yunoshestva). In 1813 published The Spirit of the Russians (Autumn Song, 1812) (Duh Russkih (Osennyaya pesn,1812)).
Graduating from the institute, Razumnik Timofeevich was sent to the city of Novy Oskol (Kursk province) as a teacher of district schools, where he wrote a textbook in French, which included an anthology of French literature (Pgatique de! A langue fasche: aise, 1814). In 1814 he studied at the historical and philological faculty of Kharkov University.
Razumnik Timofeevich worked as a teacher of district schools in Novy Oskol (Kursk province) In 1814 he taught a course of the German language and literature at Kharkov University. Later on, he taught statistics, geography, history of the Middle Ages.
Razumnik Timofeevich was a translator and propagandist of classical authors, in the books The Spirit of Horace and Tibull (1814) (Duh Goratsiya i Tibulla) and Experiments in Prose with the Addition of Two Sonnets, Two Romances, and One Fantasy (1818) (Opyityi v proze s prisovokupleniem dvuh sonetov, dvuh romansov i odnoy fantazii) sought to recreate the "being" of Catullus, Horace, Tibulla, Properia, Ovid, etc. His "experiments" (essays) about them are a kind of fusion of biography and poetic motifs, sometimes supported by an analysis of the verse. "Experiments ..." were positively evaluated by N. Tserteev.
Razumnik Timofeevich was engaged in the development of the theory of hexameter. The book contains interesting observations on the correlation between semantic and sound series in the verse.
Together with E. Filomafitsky and G. Kvitka-Osnovyanenko, Razumnik Timofeevich was the founder and editor of the first Ukrainian (published in Kharkov) journal Ukrainian News (Ukrainskaya vest’), which propagated the ideas of French newspaper encyclopedists.
Razumnik Timofeevich also published a significant number of translations from F. Petrarch, J. Marmontel, J. Barthelemy, I. Winkelmann, I. Herder, and others in the journal. Due to his cultural and educational activities, he sought to make journal the center of the dissemination of education in Ukraine.
From Gonorsky’s youth, Razumnik Timofeevich had fanatical "passion for science, especially for languages and belles-lettres."
