Educational public schools, Buffalo, Memphis, Tennessee, and Columbus, Ohio, 1853-1857. Began study of music when but 4 years old. Played in public before he was 7, leader of theatre orchestra at Columbus, Ohio, at age of 11.
Studied at Leipzig Conservatory, 1864-1867, graduate at head of class.
Member Theodore Thomas’ Orchestra (one of 1st violins), 1869-1876. Leader and solo violinist New York Philharmonic Club, 1878-1891. Elected member, 1877, a director, 1880, concert-meister, 1885, vice president, 1886, New York Philharmonic Society Instructor of violin.
