His work has mostly focused on anxiety disorders, but he has also researched the cognitive functioning of adults reporting histories of childhood sexual abuse. McNally received his Bachelor of Surgery (1976) in Psychology from Wayne State University, and his Master of Arts McNally is Professor and Director of Clinical Training, Doctoral Clinical Psychology Program, Harvard University. He is one of the most cited authors in Psychology and Psychiatry.
He also served on the specific phobia and posttraumatic stress disorder committees of the DSM-IV task force, and on the National Institute of Mental Health‘s panel for the assessment of panic disorder and posttraumatic stress disorder.
