His name first appeared in the records of Newport in 1713 as inn-keeper, later he was listed as "House Carpenter.” After being made a "Freeman” of the city (registered voter) in 1722, Munday joined one Benjamin Wyatt in planning and building houses, but later worked alone. His first public building in Newport was Trinity Church, begun in 1725, in design closely resembling the old North Church in Boston. His outstanding achieve¬ment, however, was the Colony House, completed in 1739 and recognized as a remarkably original work for so early a period. A few years after his death, Elizabeth Munday, his widow, in September, 1743, presented a petition to the Town of Newport"craving an allowance again
