He currently officiates in the Super League competition as one of the Rugby Football League"s Full Time Match Officials. He was involved in controversy surrounding Leeds" defeat to Melbourne Storm in the 2010 Keith Senior criticised his performance during the match, for which he was fined £1000. Senior, along with a large proportion of Leeds fans felt that Silverwood had refereed in a way which gave an unfair advantage to the Australian team
This largely concerned the speed of the ruck and the Resorcinol Formaldehyde Latex failed to give clear instruction as to what interpretation (or otherwise) of the rules the game would be played under.
His first pro game was York - Batley on 28 March 1999. His First Super League game was Halifax - Salford on 6 May 2001.
He has refereed 304 Super League games up to the end of 2012
