Kostin Vladimir Mikhailovich was an internationally certified referee, member of the FIBA Technical Commission, participant (as an arbitrator) of four Olympic Games and member of the FIBA Hall of Fame.
Background
Vladimir Kostin was born on June 22, 1921 in Moscow. Kostin came from a family of hereditary railwaymen. His father, Mikhail Pavlovich, was the dispatcher and duty officer at the Moscow-Kazan station. Mother of Vladimir was a tailor - milliner by profession, and later became a housewife.
Education
After the war, Vladimir Kostin graduated from the Higher School of Trainers in Moscow, and then was educated at the Russian State University of Physical Education.
Career
In October 1939, Vladimir Kostin was called up for military service, for the air defense forces, where he met with the war. Vladimir took part in the defense of Moscow, for which he was awarded the eponymous medal. When the front turned away from the capital, Kostin worked as an air traffic controller. Having passed a difficult front-line way, he finished the war with the rank of senior sergeant.
Despite the military actions, Vladimir did not part with the sport, he even coached "Lokomotiv" for some time. By the year of 1943 the holding of sports competitions began to resume. At that time, Vladimir played in the Air Force team. Vladimir Kostin became a master of sports in basketball - this title he received when he was a player of the Moscow "Lokomotiv". Together with the team, he won bronze medals of the USSR Championship.
After the war, Vladimir Kostin graduated from the Higher School of Trainers in Moscow, and then was educated at the Russian State University of Physical Education. In 1949, certified specialist started to work at the Moscow Institute of Transport Engineers (MITE), where he worked his way from a senior teacher to an assistant professor, head of the department. After retirement, Vladimir Kostin worked as an assistant professor for the rest of his life.
While working in the MITE, Vladimir Kostin also coached the men's and women's basketball teams of the Lokomotiv club. In those same years, Vladimir Kostin began to work as a referee of basketball matches.
The first international trip for Vladimir Kostin as an arbitrator was the European Basketball Championship held in Paris in 1951. After that, he took part in almost all major competitions - in four Olympic games (1952 - Helsinki, 1956 - Melbourne, 1976 - Montreal, 1980 - Moscow), World and European Championships, Ronchetti Cups and Korać Cups, Men's and Women's Champions Cups.
As a coach, Vladimir Kostin managed to work not only with the male and female teams of the Lokomotiv. In 1962, he was invited to Finland, to the working society "Tull", which he coached for several months. In 1964, Vladimir Kostin ended his coaching career.
Vladimir Kostin worked for the Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR for many years, first as a referee, and later as a FIBA commissioner - he was a member of the FIBA Technical Commission.
