1994Brosio's primary motivation for writing was a desire to analyze the socioeconomic, political, and educational conditions in school and society, in order to understand better the asymmetrical relations of power, wealth, access, and privilege - as well as to describe democratic collective movements that had sought to make school and society more just for everyone.
Particular influences on his work include democratic Marxists, Dewey and other American pragmatist philosophers and progressives, existentialist writers, Paulo Freire, and many others who stand for democratic empowerment, social justice, and respect for diversity. Some of these others are socialist feminists, African-American philosophers and activists, as well as Green ecologists.
Brosio's work can be described as philosophical, historical, political, economic, sociological, educational study and writing aimed at understanding better how things are, how they were, and how they might become.
Brosio was a member of the Philosophy of Education Society, American Educational Studies Association, and Ohio Valley Philosophy of Education Society.
For Richard, there was no limit in challenging the mind, and no hesitation in sharing those challenges with all who had the privilege of knowing him.
On November 18, 1983, Brosio married Martha Risberg. They had a son, Anthony Henry.
