Richard Henry Thomas

Background

Thomas, Richard Henry was born on January 26, 1854 in Baltimore. Son of Doctor Richard H. and Phebe Clapp Thomas.

Education

Graduate Haverford College, 1872, U. Maryland School of Medicine, 1875, post-graduate studies in London and Vienna.

Career

Minister in Society of Friends (orthodox). Traveled in Great Britain, Ireland and Continental Europe in that capacity. About 10 years professor diseases of throat and chest in Woman’s Medical College, Baltimore, and for several years dean of the college.

Resigned professorship on account of other duties in 1893.

Again professor diseases of the nose, throat and chest in the same college in 1900. Author: Echoes and Pictures, poems (London, 1895).

“Penelve, or Among the Quakers,” a story, 1898. History of the Society of Friends in America (with Professor A. C. Thomas, of Haverford College), 1894.

Also various medical pamphlets.
