Sent to England to assist in bringing out gunboats, and took command of gunboat “Albert” for voyage to Australia.
Commander, 1884; Secretary for Defence for Victoria, 1886, and placed on retired list with rank of Captain. Temporarily represented the Commonwealth of Australia in London, 1906-1910, when he was appointed official Secretary in Great Britain of Commonwealth of Australia. Acted Member of Royal Commission on Shipping Rings. Retired Lieutenant Royal Navy, and retired Captain Australian Naval Forces; Secretary of the Department of Defence, Commonwealth of Australia to 1906.
