Career
Holding to position in the Siberian committee of the party, he took an active part in collectivization, dekulakization and Great Purge. In 1937 he was appointed Narkom (minister) of agriculture of the Soviet Union. In 1938 he was arrested and accused of the creation of a "Latvian fascist organization", and executed in 1940.
