In 1972 Robert served as a director of photography for Tel El Gezer Archaeological Excavations in Israel, funded by Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States. In 1975 he printed a portfolio for Helen Levitt of New York City, New York, United States.
In a 1976 Robert printed Roberta Neiman's photographs for her book Ever Since Durango. Since 1977 he is a freelance photographer and director of Solio, a workshop for the conservation and restoration of photographic materials.
