Robert McKenzie is an Australian lawyer whose professional life was centred in Western Australia. He studied at the University of Western Australia, was admitted to the bar in Western Australia in 1976, and later became a partner of the firm Robinson Cox.
Education
McKenzie studied at the University of Western Australia, where he received the B.Juris. and Bachelor of Laws degrees. These legal qualifications preceded his admission to the bar in Western Australia in 1976.
The University of Western Australia was established in 1911 under a state act, following a royal commission's recommendation for a university in the state. It was the first university in Western Australia and opened in 1913 with 184 students across its initial faculties. Its first degrees, including degrees in law, were conferred at Government House on 29 July 1914. The Faculty of Law became the university's fourth faculty in 1927.
Career
McKenzie was admitted to the bar in Western Australia in 1976. He later served as a partner of Robinson Cox.
The Robinson, Cox name belongs to a legal practice with roots in the late nineteenth century. Robert Thomson Robinson, called to the bar in 1889, formed a partnership in Albany in 1897 with Samuel Johnson Haynes, and the firm later became known as Haynes, Robinson & Cox. A Perth office of the firm on Howard Street was led in the early twentieth century by senior partner Charles Russell, and the practice was later renamed Robinson, Cox & Wheatley.
