Robert L. Mohle's life evolved around the water as his family moved from port to port. His first nautical experiences began at a young age, sailing the fjords of Norway. In 1960 his father retired from the navy, and they moved to California, where they continued the sailing tradition, spending most of the summers on a boat at Santa Catalina Island.
Robert obtained his first surfboard in 1961 and soon thereafter learned to respect the power of the ocean. Over the years he has traveled up and down the coast, surfing at most of southern California’s beaches.
He specializes in beach and coastal processes, and is currently employed as a professional geologist. He is also an avid kayaker and spends much of his free time on the water. He has paddled most of the coastline between Monterey and San Diego, the Channel Islands, and several of southern California’s lakes and rivers.
His book Adventure Kayaking is written for anyone who loves adventure, nature, water sports, and experiencing life to its fullest.
