Robert was a student of the Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri, United States. In 1948 he received a degree of the Doctor in Dental Surgery. In 1962 he studied at New School for Social Research in New York City, United States. He became a Master of Science. In two years he received a degree of the Doctor of Philosophy.
Robert has a private practice of dentistry in New York City, United States from 1948 to 1959. He worked at the National Institutes of Health postdoctoral fellow in psychology of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States from 1960 to 1964. He became an assistant professor of psychology at the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland, United States from 1964 to 1967. In this year he became an associate professor of psychology. He held this position until 1972. Since 1972 he works as a professor of psychology.
