Robert Widdicombe received a Master of Arts in Photography from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque (1978) and a Bachelor of Arts from Michigan State University in East Lansing in Communications (1974).
Since 1979 Robert Widdicombe has been an instructor in photography at the University of Texas in Austin. Previously he had been a teaching assistant (1978-1979) and director of the ASA Gallery (1977-1978) at the University of New Mexico. Robert Widdicombe was producing 20 x 24 Ektacolor RC prints, using artificial light, that dealt with cultural aspects of man-made environments, specifically in the southwest United States and in Mexico.
