Goodman was a lecturer at the University of Texas, Austin. He was an artist- in-residence at Apeiron Workshops, Inc., Millerton, New York, from 1972 to 1975.

Goodman won a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1977 and an NEA Photographer's Fellowship in 1973. He worked in various formats.
