In 1901 Robert Elliott Brown received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Oberlin College. In 1904 he obtained a Bachelor of Divinity degree from Yale Divinity School and a Doctor of Divinity degree from Carleton College in 1921.
In 1904 Robert Elliott Brown was ordained at Congleton ministry. From 1904 to 1911 he was a pastor at Pilgrim Church in New Haven, Connecticut, and at the second Congressional Church in Waterbury from 1911 to 1924, at the first Congressional Church in Oakland, California, from 1924 to 1929. Since 1929 he worked as a professor of practical theology at Oberlin Theological Seminary. He was a trustee of Oberlin College, Suffield (Connecticut) School, Pacific School of Religion, Country Life Academy.
On June 23, 1904 Robert Elliott Brown married Mabel A. Millikan. They have two children: Elizabeth, Edward.
