Joined 23rd Fusiliers, 1861. Served Ashanti War, 1873-1874 (medal). Burmah Expedition, 1885-1886 (despatches, medal, with clasp.
Promoted Colonel).
Hazara Expedition (Black Mountain), 1891. In command of 1st Brigade (despatches, clasp, Companion of the Bath). Retired 1892.
