Assistant biologist, Mississippi Agricultural and Mechanics College and Mississippi Agricultural Experiment Station, 1906-1908, acting professor zoology and entomology and acting entomologist, 1908-1910, professor, and entomologist, 1910-1931. Principal entomologist in charge Division of Cotton Insects, bureau of Entomology and Plant Quarantine, unites states department of Agriculture since 1931.

Entomologist, secretary and Executive officer, State Plant Board of Mississippi, 1918-1931.

Chairman Southern Plant Board, 1926-1928. Member National Plant Board, 1928-1931.

Trustee, Sidwell Friends School, Washington, District of Columbia.
