Career
Robin David Peverett was headmaster of Dulwich College Preparatory School (near Cranbrook, Kent) from 1964 to 1990, having succeeded to the position on the retirement of John Leakey. Prior to this he worked as a teacher at the school. He was also director of education for the Incorporated Association of Preparatory Schools.
In the early 1960s the school where Peverett became headmaster after Leakey"s retirement was known as DCPS Coursehorn.
Prior to Coursehorn, Peverett was at one of the Pestalozzi Homes for Boys, but it is not known whether he developed his deviant behaviour there, or even earlier, or not until he arrived at DCPS Coursehorn. In 2003, another male victim came forward, but CPS declined to re-open the case, or bring any additional charges.
In 2014, a male victim who may have been Peverett"s victim zero declared himself to Kent police. The disposition of this victim in relation to Peverett and Dulwich Preparatory School, Cranbrook is under review.
He was sentenced to 18 months in prison, suspended for two years, after admitting nine charges of indecently assaulting seven pupils (six girls and one boy, between the ages of 10 and 13) in the late 1960s/1970s.
After lengthy legal wrangling and plea-bargaining he pleaded guilty and was allowed to walk free. He was later stripped of his Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (awarded in the Prime Minister"s honours list December 1995 for services to education) following his conviction.
